Meet Recap

It was a tough, tense, and exciting end to a good Tiger season tonight losing 3-2 to Burris in the first round of Sectionals.

Maddie Minniear/Sam Academia at 1D and Cecile Rousseau at 2S both breezed through their matches, losing only 2 games between the two of them. Alexis Bartle at 1D fought hard against a strong Isabelle Behrman, losing 6-2,6-1, with a much stronger showing than the first time they met earlier in the season – great job Alexis!

Megan Simpson/Anna Rosenthall at 2D fought Komanapalli/Qin, as well as the wind, losing 6-3,6-2. There were many good doubles points and lots of good play, but Burris ended up being a little more consistent in the end.

With the match tied at 2-2, that left Elizabeth Kornilow to battle it out against Megan Draghiciu at 3S. Draghiciu won the first set 6-3, but Elizabeth fought back and kept her composure to win the second 8-6 in a nail-biter tiebreaker. Tension anyone?! Elizabeth eventually went down 6-1 in the third, but the score doesn’t do the great play justice – there were many long points, numerous deuce/ad games, and lots of wonderful sportsmanship – one of my favorite parts of the game! So I’m extremely proud of Elizabeth for how she played tonight, especially with all eyes watching. Very difficult to do!

And I’m very proud of the whole team for a great season! Varsity was 8-7 overall (including tonight’s postseason match) and 4-3 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. JV was 6-6-1 (played Delta twice) and 3-3-1 in the HHC (Yes, you’re reading that right – you’re not on Soccer’s page! That’s a tie in tennis… We were 1-1 in matches against New Castle before getting rained out. )

Finally, because Maddie and Sam won tonight at 1D, they move on to Individual Sectionals next week. They will play against other 1D teams who won their sectional matches, but whose team lost. Matches will be held at Marion HS during the Team Regional matches Tuesday/Wednesday. More info to come as it becomes available.
