It was a great win for the Tigers' first match of the season, taking down Kokomo in Varsity 4-1 and 5-3 for JV. The Tigers have never played the Wildkats in a regular season match, so we weren't sure how we'd match up, but we delivered! Here's how we ended up: Varsity: 1S - Jillian Darby, in her first full singles match since her shoulder surgery last year, played well against All-State player Helfin, but couldn't overcome Helfin's consistency and fell 2,1 - way to fight! 2S - Hannah Clark defeated Callane 4,2 in a very well-played match, with Hannah figuring out how to best her opponent using the wind and her superior groundstrokes - well done! 3S - Alysse ended up starting her match pretty late in the evening due to some weird water issues on the court, but fought really hard against a strong Pollard and winning 4,3. Probably one of the most well-rounded matches I've seen from Alysse in the past two years - very awesome!!! 1D - Rhen Martin and Isabelle McKay played a very solid doubles match against two seniors Downing/Colescott, winning 2,3, and overcoming some hard-serving and big groundstrokes. Great defense and offense! 2D - Julia McCammon and Georgia Shrieve partnered up for the first time ever and played some very aggressive doubles, defeating their opponents Barker/Stiner handily 3,0. Well done! For Junior Varsity, I was impressed with the consistency and drive even though we're a very young team! Unfortunately I wasn't able to see many matches due to the layout of the courts, but this is how we won 5-3: 1S - Claire Carder dominated Burns 8-1 2S - Addison DeWitt outlasted her opponent in an almost 2-hour 8-game proset match, 8-6, with an invigorating win against Leavitt. 3s - Emilee Marker played her first-ever singles match but fell to Stont 8-1 1D - Ryleigh Kelly and Emma Wolfert dominated their first-ever match against Young/Esin 8-0 2D - Adrianna Chappell and Nicky Cole easily defeated their opponents Holsapple/Stephen 8-0 And then we had some playbacks: Caity Thorpe and Praise Stanley-Obinna defeated their opponents 6-2 Sofia Ibarra and Dejah Chamness lost 6-0 Sophia Luchs and Avery Barnell lost 6-2 And we have three special awards for things like hustle, hard work, outstanding play, and sportsmanship. Praise was awarded Keychain Fish, Alysse was awarded Keychain Bear, and Addison was awarded Lego Hulk. :-) Varsity and JV are now 1-0 for the season - it's a great start! Next up is @ Muncie Central on Monday @ 5:00. Let's Go Tigers!
