Yorktown fell to a very strong and deep Mt. Vernon team, with Varsity losing 5-0 and Junior Varsity losing 10-2. With wind gusts over 30 mph, it made for some difficult tennis, but wind is typically a good equalizer as both sides must struggle with it. That proved to be true for various points and games, but unfortunately not for full matches. Some highlights for the night: --Jillian at 1 singles had to contend with the top singles player in the conference and a shoe-in for All-State, but fought hard throughout and winning some games with her aggressive play. --Hannah lost her first set 4-6, but dominated the second 6-0 to force a third set. Being down 3-9 in the super breaker, she won the next 4 points to continue to pressure her opponent, but eventually lost 7-10 - way to fight being down! --Emma stepped up again into Varsity due to Georgia being out sick, this time in the #1 doubles spot and she played well against a very tough doubles team who will most likely be All-State as well. Great job Jules for leading the freshman well! --In JV play, they took 2 matches this year (last year the score was 0-11) with Adrianna/Nicky and Claire/Ryleigh winning their playbacks. --And it was great to see JJ and Kya compete in their first match of the season!!! Varsity 1S - Jillian lost to Allen 1,2 2S - Hannah lost to Joubert 6-4, 0-6, 10-7 3S - Alysse lost to Spalding 1,2 1D - Jules/Emma lost to Brandes/Lugo 0,0 2D - Rhen/Isabelle lost to Koon/Zhu 0,0 JV 1S - Sofia lost to Hua 8-0 2S - Mallory lost to Moore 8-1 3S - Ana lost to Lockwood 8-0 1D - Ryleigh/Claire lost to Geryak/Westfall 8-2 2D - Adrianna/Nicky lost to Kloc/Muhlenkamp 8-2 3D - Ana/Caity lost 8-0 4D - Natalia/Emilee lost 8-2 5D - Lexi/Sophia lost 8-1 6D - Dejah/Avery 8-0 7D - JJ/Kya lost 8-1 PB - Adrianna/Nicky won 7-6(4) PB - Claire/Ryleigh won 8-0 Varsity is now 7-3 overall and 0-2 in the HHC; JV is 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the HHC.
