Wow! What a nail-biter match against Greenfield Central, where Varsity Tigers eeked out a great win with 3 three-set matches! All looked good for the first portion of the match with Jillian winning her first set 6-2, Alysse winning hers 6-3, and Jules/Georgia winning theirs 6-1 (Hannah losing a close first 4-6 and Rhen/Isabelle seeming to be out of the match losing their first set 1-6.) And the GC team started picking up speed and the pressure began to build... With Jillian closing her match out 6-3 in the second and taking the Tigers to a 1-0 spot, Rhen/Isabelle fought back to win their second 6-3, forcing a third set! About the same time, Jules/Georgia lost their second set in a not-so-close tiebreaker 2-7, also being forced to play a full third set. All the while Alysse lost her second set 5-7, forcing her to go into a third set too. Pressure! Hannah continued to fight against a strong opponent, trying everything she could to turn the match around, but eventually fell 7-5 in the second set. Both doubles teams stepped up BIG TIME in their third sets, each winning 6-2 in the third set to CLINCH the overall match 3-1! Well done! That left Alysse on the court, exhausted from a very long match, yet still fighting to the very last point, losing 3-6 in her third. What a great night for tennis and an awesome Conference win! I have had NUMEROUS opposing spectators/parents come up to me during matches to compliment our players this year and in many years past, so I want to share this one here. "Alysse is a class act player. She always calls close lines in favor of her opponent, stays positive throughout the match, and just keeps fighting." Well done Alysse! I can say that about MANY of our players, so keep fighting and being positive role models to all who you're around.
