According to Wikipedia, everyone's favorite source, the Pendleton Correctional Facility houses 1,650 inmates (an approximation). The 31 acre maximum security facility also affords dormitory accommodations outside its main facility, which can house an additional 200 prisoners. The Yorktown Lady Tigers took no prisoners and also returned home safely, while golfing only yards from "The Yard" on the friendly confines of Fall Creek Golf Club. Sophomore Lindsey Mathews (41) led the way as co-medalist of the battle. Lindsey put together her finest nine hole round of her sophomore season and played eight of nine modified quality holes of bogey or better, with her lone double bogey being her very first hole of the shotgun start, hole 9. If this young lady gets some confidence going, watch out. Her driver was the best it has been thus far this season, as the sophomore is trending in a nice direction heading into the weekend. Freshman Lilly Duncan continued her strong freshman campaign, finishing second on the Tigers and third overall in the match with a 43. Behind Lilly were sophomore Gigi Ambler, who shot 46, her best score of the season, and Grace Turner, who also shot 46; Gigi was a huge part of last season's success and is starting to find her golf swing. The Tigers have counted Grace's score in every event this season. Junior Addison Whittenburg fired a season-low 48, highlighted by a hole out for birdie on the par 5 third hole. Addison holed a wedge from (we think) somewhere between 38 and 42 yards. On a team pretty deep with talent, let's not forget about two year varsity performer Ms. Whittenburg; she continues to lead by example and is one of the best young people in the building. Also competing on the night were youngsters Avery Barnell and Bailey Briles, as well as veterans Lilly Miller and Ana Creviston. This week has allowed sixteen Tigers to get on the course for competitive golf, a modern program record. Big things are happening. Coach Boehm made the roadtrip with the team, prior to his departure for his lake house in the northern part of the state. Conveniently, Coach Boehm will be a short fifty-minute drive from Cobblestone Golf Club, and he will be joining the team bright and early in Kendallville on Saturday for the Carroll Invitational, one of our favorite events on the schedule. We will share pairings on X (@YorktownGolf @yhsathletics) if and when we receive them.
