Yorktown boys tennis wins tight contest at Tipton The Tigers traveled to Tipton on Thursday, Aug. 28, to face the Blue Devils. The varsity team ultimately won 3-2, although they were 2 match points away from a 4-1 decision. The JV squad finished with 3 wins for the night. At No. 1 varsity singles, senior Reid Butts fell 4-6, 6-1, 5-7 against his opponent, but he held 2 match points while up 5-4 in that final set. At No. 2, senior Silas Carder lost 1-6, 3-6, but No. 3 junior Aaron Buehler secured the final W for the Tigers in a match that lasted over 2 hours and required the head coaches to serve as line judges deep into the final set. He won 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. In varsity doubles action, No. 1 senior duo Palmer Jones and Noah Kelly claimed the first set (6-2) before losing some momentum in the second (4-6). They rediscovered their form, though, late in the third, earning a critical "double flip" to go up 6-5 in the third before serving it out (7-5). At No. 2, sophomores Colton Nickols and Jackson West won in a more straightforward fashion: 6-1, 6-3. This result puts the Tigers' varsity team at 4-4 (and 0-2 conference) for the Fall 2025 season. The JV squad posted all Ws for the night. No. 1 singles sophomore Nolan Clark beat his opponent 6-2, and at No. 2 singles, junior Gavin Bailey posted the same score against his competition. In doubles, senior duo Ethan Gamble and Patrick Powers put away their Blue Devils foes with a 6-1 finish. After this 3 win / 0 loss decision, the JV team sits at 2-2 (and 0-2 conference) for the Fall 2025 season. The Tigers' boys tennis team faces Muncie Central on the Bearcats' courts on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The match starts at 5 PM.
