The Event (Appreciation): The 2025 Hoosier Heritage Championship was played on Saturday at Albany Golf Club (9 am shotgun start). The event in its entirety, including awards, lasted five hours, an example of wonderful pace-of-play and a well-run event by Delta and Albany Golf Club. Huge thanks to the Vannatter Family for hosting such a wonderful tournament. Ryan, you are the man. The Vannatters and Albany are massive supporters of junior golf, and we very much appreciate their hospitality. While we do prefer Kelli to Ryan, she was watching her son on the tennis courts on Saturday, a legitimate, excused absence. The Standouts: Saturday's medalist was Lauren Deering of New Palestine High School, who shot a five-under par 67, in a round that included eight (8) scores of 3 or lower. Lauren is a player. Katie Kelley from New Pal and freshman Ressie Lemmon of Mt. Vernon tied for second with solid, even par rounds of 72. Yorktown Tigers finished in fourth, fifth, and sixth individually, with strong showings from sophomore Lindsey Mathews (career-low 83), Grace Turner (85), and Alysse Taylor (87). In an eight-team conference, landing three girls in the top eight individually is good stuff for our Lady Tigers. Team Results: New Palestine 329 Mt. Vernon 342 Yorktown 348 Delta 394 Pendleton 401 Greenfield Central 404 Shelbyville 428 New Castle 432 Props to Coach O'Brien: We assume New Pal's Sarah O'Brien won her third consecutive Coach of the Year Award. New Palestine was fantastic and shot nine strokes lower than their score last season, despite graduating two seniors on last year's roster. Impressive stuff from the Dragons. Quality Holes for Yorktown: Sophomore Lindsey Mathews once again, for the second event in a row, led the team (technically tied today) in quality holes of bogey or better with fifteen (15) on Saturday. Well done by Lindsey, and congrats on the 83 and 4th place individual finish. Senior Grace Turner also played fifteen (15) quality holes en route to her 85 and fifth place finish. Grace was rock solid, firing her best eighteen hole score of the campaign. Grace birdied the 3rd hole and the 18th, both par 5s. Alysse Taylor, for much of the round on Saturday, was Yorktown's best player, as she flirted with breaking 80 for a majority of the round. Alysse played fourteen quality holes (ultimately shot 87); her round was highlighted by an absolute dart pitching wedge from 126 yards on 10 that left her just over a foot for birdie. She also made birdie on the 18th. While Lilly Duncan and Lucy Melton, a freshman and sophomore, did not have their best stuff on Saturday, we saw them both fight and scrap their way to the best scores they could shoot on the day, firing 93 and 97 respectively. Quite a bit of grit shown by the Tigers on Saturday. Lilly did manage a dozen quality holes; Lucy made six 4s on the back nine. Neither girl folded, and that is all we can ask of our youngsters. Upcoming Week: Match with a good Richmond team on Wednesday @ TPC. Sectional next Saturday. Let's prepare, Tigers. We have a tournament to win. Prayers for Roxanne Boehm: Coach Boehm's wife Roxanne had foot surgery last week and is recovering. While Coach Boehm has remained with the team for the majority of the week, he would appreciate your positive vibes and thoughts. Rest up, Rox. We love you!
