The Yorktown Boys JV soccer team topped off their season with a home win against Muncie Burris on Thursday night (October 1) winning 4-1. Yorktown came out strong and immediately sought to break through the Owls’ defense. In the 16th minute of play, Zach Wright streamed down the left flank and slotted a pass to center of the box where Riley Marvin poked home the first goal of the match (1-0). Only 32 seconds later, Riley Marvin and Kiernan Waterman both had successive shots saved that were kept in play so that Waterman’s shot fell perfectly in front of Brad Jenkins to smash home, doubling the Tigers’ lead (2-0). Zach Wright and Riley Marvin linked up again as Marvin found Wright for the Tiger’s third goal of the match (3-0). With only 3 seconds left on the clock in the first half, Ivan Martinez played a beautiful ball to Brad Jenkins who scored his second (and Yorktown’s final) goal of the game. The Tigers went into halftime with a 4-0 lead and fought hard to secure the win in the 2nd half. Ethan Merkle made a crucial clearance off the goal line in the 2nd half to protect a hopeful clean sheet for the Tigers. It wasn’t until the Owls were able to manage a last-second buzzer beater that Muncie Burris found the net to end the match 4-1. Yorktown Boys JV finished the season with the best JV record in at least the last four years, concluding with a 6-4 record. This also marks the best goal difference in the last four years – with a finishing goal differencial of +4 for the Tigers JV.
