The Yorktown Tigers Boys JV soccer team has now won two straight games as they beat Pendleton Heights Arabians 1-4 on the road Wednesday night. The first half concluded with the Arabians taking the lead shortly before halftime 1-0 with a long range effort to make their mark on the game. However, the Tigers regrouped and within 2 minutes of the return to play, the Tigers scored twice to claim the lead. Freshman Riley Marvin pressured a dangerous defensive backpass intended for the Arabian’s keeper which was foiled. Marvin scooped up the ball and passed it around the keeper into the back of the net to start the scoring for the Tigers (1-1). Less than a minute later, the Tigers were pressuring high again and the Arabians had a handball called in their own box for a Yorktown penalty kick. Freshman Zach Wright stepped up and converted his penalty kick to claim the lead (1-2). Later in the half, Wright had the ball 25 yards out from goal on the top right when he cut left and dribbled through 3 Pendleton players and shot far post to add to the Tigers’ lead (1-3). Wright refused to believe that the game was done however. With 20 seconds on the clock, Junior Ethan Merkle collected the ball and played it up the right wing to Zach Wright who drove to the center of the field, picked his spot, and completed his hattrick with 1.9 seconds left on the clock for the Tigers to beat the Arabians 1-4. The Man of the Match award went to Zach Wright with his 3 goals on the night. Riley Marvin had 1 goal; Ethan Merkle added an assist for the match. Carter Fauquher had 7 saves for the Tigers in goal. The Tigers record is now 4-3. The JV will play next on Monday, September 21 away at Muncie Central.
